Apr 13, 2010 – In the last six weeks two alerts have been issued alerting ship owners about a possible threat to the innocent passage of their vessels.

The first, issued by the Singapore Navy Information Fusion Centre (IFC), at the beginning of March warned of a targeted threat to oil tankers specifically transiting the Strait of Malacca – one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

This week the US Department of Transportation warned of possible al Qaeda attacks against vessels against the coast of Yemen.

It was also disclosed recently by the International Atomic Energy Authority that 1,562 incidents nuclear material was lost or stolen between 1993 and 2008, 65 per cent of which has never recovered. It is the UK’s National Security Assessment that the significant trafficking in radiological materials could present a threat to the United Kingdom.

With 90% of world goods by volume moving by sea MUSC, as the leader in global maritime security, is perfectly positioned to help ship owners, operators, managers as well as port and supply chain specialists manage this threefold increase to their risk.
