Children and adults at New Hope Baptist Church in Versailles, Kentucky, got a taste of the Big Apple as Mr. Taxi provided rides around the parking for the vacation Bible school participants this weekend.
Right up there on any NYC tourist’s list of sights and experiences, with a look at the Statue of Liberty, is a taxi ride. VBS participants at New Hope Baptist Church were no different. Maeghan Disponett, Director of VBS, explained, “This summer our children are learning about New York.
City as they take a ‘Big Apple Adventure and the kids repeatedly asked us if it was possible to get a taxi ride.” Mr. Taxi was happy to bring the Big Apple to Versailles. On the date of the event, the skies were heavy with clouds, and just as the taxi rides began, it started pouring. Children ran to jump into a taxi to get out of the rain, and to their destination (the top of the hill). Michelle Sjogren, of Mr. Taxi, commented that the children really got a taste of what it’s like to be a New Yorker because “when it rains in New York City, taxis are in high demand.” Like real New Yorkers, they were not deterred by the rain.
The children got to meet taxi drivers, see how the meter works, and find out that taxis come in all colors and sizes. The only disappointing comment came from a parent when she found out that Mr. Taxi did not have a “cash cab,” like the popular cable television show. Michelle Sjogren laughed and said, “We’ll work on that.”
Mr. Taxi looks forward to more opportunities to work with children and give them the “Big Apple” experience. Perhaps one day, one of those children will direct a vacation Bible school in NYC and ask those drivers to give them the “Bluegrass” taxi experience offered by Mr. Taxi.
